What is the Keysmash game?
Keysmash is a themed word puzzle where every vowel has been knocked out of each word, leaving only the consonants and a blank for each missing vowel. Your job is to read the theme, look at the consonant skeleton, and type the vowels — a, e, i, o, and u — back into place. There are no numbers and no grid, just wordplay driven by a single theme that ties every answer together.
Netflix publishes a daily vowel-fill puzzle called Keysmash as part of its Puzzled games collection, and it quickly found an audience that wanted more than one board a day. The Keysmash Game is an independent, free tribute for exactly those players: the same satisfying fill-in-the-vowels gameplay, available whenever you want it.
How our version is different
We built this site to remove every barrier between you and the next puzzle. There is no sign-in, no paywall, and nothing to download. Here is what you get:
- Six daily lengths. A new four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine-word set every day, from a quick coffee-break solve to a proper sitting.
- Unlimited mode. Generate a brand-new themed set on demand and play as many as you like. Every set has a seed you can share so a friend gets the same puzzle.
- A growing archive. Missed a day? Replay any previous date's full set of six puzzles.
- Progress that stays put. Your solves, streak, and best times are saved right in your browser.
How to play in four steps
- Read the theme. Every word in the set belongs to one theme. Read it first so your brain is primed for the right kind of words.
- Read the skeleton. Each word shows its consonants with a blank for every missing vowel. Say the consonants and let the theme suggest the word.
- Type the vowels. Tap a blank and type a vowel. On a phone a vowel keypad appears, and the next blank is selected for you automatically.
- Solve every word. Fill every blank in a word correctly and it locks in. Solve the whole set to finish. Stuck? A hint reveals the next missing vowel.
That's the whole game: simple to learn, deeply satisfying to finish. For a deeper dive and solving strategy, read the how to play guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Keysmash game?
Keysmash is a themed word puzzle where every vowel has been knocked out of each word, leaving only the consonants and a blank for each missing vowel. Your job is to read the clue, look at the consonant skeleton, and type the vowels — a, e, i, o, and u — back into place. There are no numbers and no grid; it is pure wordplay driven by a single theme that ties every answer together.
How do you play the Keysmash game?
Each puzzle gives you a theme and a short list of words with their vowels removed. Tap a blank and type a vowel — on a phone, a vowel keypad appears under the puzzle; on a desktop, just use your keyboard. Fill every blank in a word correctly and it locks in as solved. Solve every word in the set to finish the puzzle. Stuck on one? A hint fills in the next missing vowel of the word you are working on.
Is The Keysmash Game free to play?
Yes. Every puzzle here is completely free, with no app to install and no account required. Play as many puzzles as you like in your browser on phone, tablet, or desktop — and if you want to appear on the daily leaderboard, you can optionally sign in.
How is this different from Netflix's Keysmash?
Netflix publishes one Keysmash puzzle each day in its Puzzled collection. This is an independent fan site that offers a daily Keysmash puzzle in six lengths, an unlimited mode that generates a fresh themed set on demand, and an archive of previous days — all without a login. We are not affiliated with Netflix.
Which vowels do I need to fill in?
Only the five standard vowels: a, e, i, o, and u. The letter y is always treated as a consonant in Keysmash, so it is shown in the skeleton and never blanked. Every blank in a puzzle is one of the five vowels, which is why the on-screen keypad has just those five keys plus a delete key.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Your progress on each daily puzzle, your solving streak, and your best times are saved locally in your browser, so clearing your browser data will reset them. If you sign in, your streak and stats also sync to your account so they follow you across devices.
How long are the puzzles?
Every day offers six lengths: sets of four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine themed words. The four-word set is a quick warm-up; the nine-word set is a proper sitting with longer skeletons and trickier vowel runs. Pick the length that matches how much time you have.
